Nez Perce National Historical Park is a non-traditional national park in that it consists of 38 sites. which together tell the story of the nimí·pu· (Nez Perce). These sites are spread over much of the traditional homeland of the nimí·pu· in present-day Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Staff are located at the visitor center in Spalding, ID, at the Big Hole National Battlefield near Wisdom, Montana, and at the Bear Paw Battlefield near Chinook, Montana.
For thousands of years the valleys, prairies, mountains, and plateaus of the inland northwest have been home to the nimí·pu· (Nez Perce) people.
